Got 2 Pieces into the RHA annual exhibition this year - Pearse III & Connolly III. Did these pieces over the Easter - one is a pen and ink piece and the other is done in pencil - was in such a rush to submit the pieces, I did not get the chance to photograph them. Will upload photos of them at the exhibition. Opening night Monday, May 21st at the RHA

The Back Loft Aftermath

04/11/06
We had a mighty turnout for opening night, I read somewhere that 10 of the twenty pieces were sold within 90 minutes of the show opening, which is nice. Thanks to those who helped, fair play to y'all!

I've added some photos from the night of the back loft.

Some Words on 'Bachelor's Walk'

Guns and ammunition were smuggled on shore near Howth, a village north-east of Dublin, on 26 July 1914. With the unloaded guns the Irish Volunteer Force (IVF) marched in a military formation to Dublin. For the coast guard and police, who were unaware of the lack of ammunition, this was a threatening sight and the troop continued undisturbed until they reached Clontarf.

At Clontarf the march was stopped by the Dublin Metropolitan Police and the Kings Own Scottish Borderers. The Irish Volunteers refused to hand over the guns. This resulted in several charges of the police and the Borderers. In the chaos which followed the Irish Volunteers with guns backed away and went home to store the guns safely.

Once the chief of the police, Harrel, realised what was going on he led his men through the city in order to intercept the withdrawing Irish Volunteers. A roaring and stone throwing crowd followed them. On Bachelor's Walk, a street bordering the River Liffey in Dublin, the Borderers opened fire on the crowd. Three people were killed and 32 injured. No member of the British army was ever brought to courtmartial over this massacre and the official explanation given for the incident was that the officer commanding's orders had been misinterpreted.

Below is some information about Turlough Rynne.

Artist

Today, the work is mostly executed in pen & and ink on high gram watercolour paper. Although the subject matter is currently the streets of Dublin centre, the primary focus is on the process of how a particular work evolves.

"The criteria for how a work must be resolved are evolved only by the process of it's creation"
